University of Brasília team presents only assisted cycling project in Latin America selected for the Cybathlon, the "Bionic Olympics"

Rio de Janeiro, 7 September 2016 - Members of the Empowering Mobility and Autonomy (EMA) Project, jointly developed by the Electrical Engineering and Physical Therapy Departments at the University of Brasilia (UnB), will hold a press conference at the Rio Media Center this Thursday (8 September) to present the EMA Trike, a tricycle developed to allow people with spinal cord injury to ride it.

During the press conference, journalists will interview athlete Estevão Carvalho, who will pilot the EMA Trike during the Cybathlon, and see the tricycle up close.

The project was the only one in Latin America selected to participate in the Cybathlon, known as the "Bionic Olympics", a competition in which the use of technological resources is mandatory. The event is focused on races in which pilots with physical disabilities use assistive technologies to compete, including robotics. The contest takes place in Switzerland in October.
